Critical Success Factors
|
"Within
every industry exist the unique core factors that govern
success or failure.
The film industry is no exception.
The 'DNA' for a world class feature film project is Product,
Marketing & Distribution.
THE GREAT BEAR is assured of all three being in place. In
doing so, we demonstrate
our understanding of the term Show BUSINESS."

 |
"There are only 3
things you need for a GREAT
film
a GREAT SCRIPT… a GREAT
SCRIPT…a GREAT SCRIPT."
William Goldman, Internationally Renowned Screenwriter
|
|
|
The principal element required for any world-class feature
film is a world-class script. THE GREAT BEAR has this
key element in place. The film industry is littered with examples
of expensive failures, where, given the cast, crew and budget,
success would have seemed assured.
The one key element that is missing in such examples is a
quality script.

|
Plot
THE GREAT BEAR is a unique comedy, set in present day
Scotland.
Rab 'The Bear' McNair, a giant of a highlander, who is himself
terminally ill with a rare illness, meets up with 9 other
similar patients whilst in hospital. With treatment costing
£100,000 per patient and a survival rate of only 1 in
10, the group is no longer cost effective to treat in the
modern health system - treatment is withdrawn. Rather than
accept their fiscal fate, the ten team up and decide that
if they can scam and scheme their way to £1,000,000,
they can all get treated and theoretically one of them should
survive. The question is, can they raise the money? ..
And if they do, who will survive?

|
"
This is a great premise for a screenplay… The Bear is built
up as a magical and
mythical figure…This screenplay definitely warrants further
attention!"

- Screen Partners, for the Houlder Group (Lloyds
of London Broker)

" In
order to make a film successful you need to 'open it' and
'hold it'.
Marketing & Distribution is responsible to 'open' the film
and the quality of the script
is what adds longevity to its life. Word
of mouth is
the key in both instances."
(Screen International, 1999)
|
|
Word of mouth recommendation is the single most influential
factor in generating an enduring groundswell of audience support.
The Word of Mouth Road Show will
generate and sustain a high level of public interest in the
film on a regional, national and international level. The
Word of Mouth Road Show will take the stars of the film to
cities and towns both in advance of and during its cinema
release, allowing members of the cast to personally promote
the movie. The uniqueness of this approach will generate significant
publicity from regional, national and international media.

"Of
films that get UK distribution
50% make money.
For those that enjoy worldwide distribution
80% make money."
(Source: Paul Brett, Head of Cinema Services, British
Film Institute, London)
|
Having secured
BOTH UK & WORLDWIDE Marketing spends in
advance,
THE GREAT BEAR is assured
of significant Worldwide Distribution, by virtue of providing
much of the risk capital to any prospective distributor.
|
It should be noted, that the previously mentioned expensive
failures all had the best distribution companies behind them.
Therefore, unless all three critical
success factors are in place - especially
a quality product, the film will not remain in the cinemas
beyond the opening weekend - no matter
which powerhouse distributor is behind it.
